A few years ago, I moved to Barcelona to begin my work as a professional videographer. I produced promotional videos for events and hotels which were used for their websites, social media pages and the like. Creating these videos always posed a great challenge, for I had to make each film as unique and attractive as possible.
It was during one of my visits to Belgium when I advised my Dad to buy an iPad. I told him this is the ideal device to keep in touch.
“We could make video calls via FaceTime,” I said.
A day before my flight back to Barcelona, I tried explaining to my Dad about all the functions of the iPad. At first, it wasn’t so bad. We were able to speak on FaceTime on my first day back. But as the days and weeks passed, my Dad’s questions about the iPad kept coming.
“Matthias, how do you do this exactly? And then? How can I do this again?”, he asked.
We spent many hours on FaceTime as I tried to answer each question step-by-step. I honestly did not anticipate that my Dad would struggle so much using his device. It was during one of our fun (and sometimes funny) FaceTime sessions, that I noticed something standing in the corner of my room.

This was my eureka moment!
I thought: What if I record all the possibilities on the iPad and send these videos to Papa?
Then he can have an entire video guide for all his questions, and he can review each video for as often as he wants.
It took me 4 months to finish the whole production. I literally had an entire video series explaining in detail about all the possibilities one can do on the iPad.
This was another eureka moment for me!
I thought: Now that I have an entire video course about the iPad, what if I also share it to the world?
The idea got me very excited. Upon sharing it to my Dad, he said:
“Yes, good idea. You helped me with this, I am sure you can help many more people.”
So I got to work— put up a website, designed a logo, created a members area and all.
Everything was ready!
Now I could finally share my iPad course to thousands of others who want to discover more on their gadgets, and not just Facebook and Youtube.

iPad Hero Through The Years
Three years since, iPad Hero has been a massive success. I have been able to create a community with like-minded and passionate people who never cease to amaze me everyday.
This extends to our private Facebook group, where we help and interact with each other — members assisting others on their concerns as well.
We even host Membership Days, where all iPad Hero members come together to meet as one community. It’s a beautiful way to connect and make friends as we dine and tour all together in one day.
When I see the progress of my members, I sometimes don’t believe my own eyes. They have exceeded many of my expectations and this makes me very proud of all of them!

On Technology and The Future
I find it very fascinating to see the impact the iPad has made on our lives. In a span of a few years, this technology has developed at an amazing pace and has been given a permanent place in homes all over the world.
